Senior Azure Data Engineer

We are seeking a highly experienced and dedicated Sr. Azure Data Engineer to join our dynamic team in a hybrid capacity, based in Mount Laurel, NJ. This contract role, with an initial duration of 12+ months, offers an exciting opportunity to leverage your deep expertise in Azure data platforms to design, build, and optimize scalable and robust data solutions. As a Sr. Azure Data Engineer, you will be instrumental in developing sophisticated data pipelines and managing critical data assets, playing a pivotal role in our data strategy and execution.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and implement highly scalable and efficient data pipelines utilizing Azure Databricks and Azure Data Factory for ETL/ELT processes.
• Manage and optimize data storage solutions, specifically with Azure Data Lake Storage (ADLS) and Delta Lake, ensuring data integrity and accessibility.
• Implement and enforce data governance strategies using Unity Catalog to manage metadata, data access, and security across various data assets.
• Integrate diverse and heterogeneous data sources into our Azure ecosystem, automating workflows for seamless data ingestion and transformation.
• Conduct thorough performance tuning and optimization of data processes, queries, and underlying infrastructure to enhance efficiency and reduce latency.
• Develop robust data solutions and applications using programming languages such such as Java, Scala, SQL, and Python.
• Create comprehensive technical design documents, architectural diagrams, and presentations to communicate data solutions effectively to stakeholders.
• Act as a self-sufficient individual contributor, taking ownership of projects from conception through to successful deployment and maintenance.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand data requirements and deliver solutions that align with business objectives.

Requirements

• Minimum of 13+ years of extensive professional experience as an Azure Data Engineer or in a similar senior data-focused role.
• In-depth knowledge and hands-on experience with Azure Data Lake Storage (ADLS), Delta Lake, and Unity Catalog.
• Strong proven experience in building and optimizing complex data pipelines leveraging Azure Databricks and Azure Data Factory.
• Expertise in integrating data from various heterogeneous sources and automating data workflows to ensure reliability and efficiency.
• Exceptional technical proficiency in programming languages including Java, Scala, SQL, and Python.
• Demonstrated ability to create detailed design documents, technical specifications, and deliver clear presentations.
• Proven capability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and deliver high-quality results in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen eye for detail and data quality.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field is preferred.
