Senior Azure & Databricks Administrator (SME)

Saama is seeking an accomplished Senior Azure & Databricks Administrator to join our team as a Subject Matter Expert (SME). As a Senior Azure & Databricks Administrator, you will be instrumental in designing and implementing robust data solutions, ensuring optimal performance, security, and governance across our cloud platforms. You will lead critical initiatives, mentor junior engineers, and serve as the primary escalation point for complex platform operations, making a significant impact on our data strategy.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and deploy enterprise-grade Azure Databricks topologies, including multi-workspace, VNet injection, and Hub-and-Spoke networks.
• Lead the enterprise-wide implementation of Unity Catalog, overseeing complex data lineage, row/column-level security, and Delta Sharing.
• Architect scalable Identity and Access Management (IAM) models utilizing Azure Entra ID (SCIM, RBAC/ABAC) and develop robust Disaster Recovery (DR) and failover strategies.
• Secure environments through advanced networking configurations using Azure Firewall, Private Link / Private Endpoints, UDRs, and custom DNS to prevent data exfiltration.
• Oversee enterprise ADLS Gen2 strategies and Azure Key Vault integration, ensuring adherence to strict compliance policies.
• Build reusable Infrastructure as Code (IaC) modules using Terraform/Bicep and architect DataOps/MLOps CI/CD pipelines via Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions.
• Provide technical leadership by mentoring junior engineers, optimizing Spark compute, and acting as the primary escalation point for platform operations.

Requirements

• 6-8 years of comprehensive experience in Cloud Infrastructure, with at least 3-4 years dedicated to managing Azure Databricks in large-scale production environments.
• Expert-level knowledge of the entire Azure ecosystem, including advanced networking concepts like peering and Network Security Groups (NSGs).
• Deep expertise in Unity Catalog, Delta Lake mechanics, and proficiency with Databricks REST APIs/CLI.
• Strong skills in scripting languages such as Python, Bash, or PowerShell.
• Advanced hands-on experience utilizing Terraform for Infrastructure as Code (IaC) implementation.
• Profound understanding of Spark UI metrics to effectively diagnose and optimize cluster and job performance.
